FROM THE COLLEGE MAGAZINE 1964-66:
Report of the Principal
1964-65
The college was inaugurated and the first lesson taught
on 20-7-1964 by Sri. R.Sankar, Ex. Chief Minister, Kerala State. The opening of
this College at this sacred place marks the realization of the cherished dream
of many enthusiastic devotees of Swamy Sree Narayana Guru. Chempazhanthi is the
village hallowed by the birth of Swamy Sree Narayana Guru, who worked
throughout his glorious life for a new social order based on the Principles of
equality and justice.
Regular work in the college began from 21st
July 1964 with 234 students on the rolls, 8 members on the teaching staff and 9
members on the non-teaching staff. Now there are 232 students, 83 in Group I
with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optionals, 84 in Group II with
Biology, Physics and Chemistry and 65 in Group III with World History, Indian
History and Economics.
With regard to the educational part of our work done
mainly in class-rooms, I am proud to say that excellent work has been done and
it has been effective throughout. Being the first year of the Pre-degree Class,
the teachers have had a hard time indeed.
To a great extent we have succeeded in our efforts. But
more remains to be done. Our work during this short period of time gives me
courage to look forward with confidence in obtaining very good results in
future.
In addition to the regular class work, we have
introduced the Tutorial System with the object of providing opportunities for
close contact between the students and teachers. The system worked well and it
has produced a high degree of sympathy and understanding between the teachers
and the taught.
Besides we have a Guardians’ Association Constituted
with the object of associating the Guardians of students with various
activities in the college. The Guardians have been extending their co-operation
and support in every possible way and I earnestly hope that they will do more
in this direction.
The Annual Athletic Meet was held at the University
Stadium on 25th February 1965. The performance of our Athletes was
really good. Inter-Group tournaments in various items were conducted during the
year.
Four of our students represented the college at the University
Youth Festival held at Trichur during September 1964 and the participants have
been awarded certificates by the University of Kerala.
Two students represented the college and participated
in the Sree Narayana Centenary Memorial All Kerala Inter-Collegiate Debate held
at Sree Narayana College, Quilon on 7th November 1964.
Two students of this college participated in the
elocution competition held in connection with Lala Lajpat Rai Centenary Celebrations
at the University College Trivandrum on 26th January 1965.
A detailed report of the activities of the College
Union and the various Associations will be presented by the Secretary, College
Union. On the whole the College Union was very active and much useful work has
been done by the office-bearers. The Vice-Patron, Sri R. Sundaresan Nair and
the members of the staff extended their hearty co-operation to the Speaker and
rendered valuable services in making the activities a grand success. I thank
one and all of them for the good work they have done.
We the members of staff of different categories,
working in this institution, do feel that we have a mission to fulfill. We feel
that we have been granted an opportunity to invest our energy, faith and
devotion to a noble task which is but a part of a great social process- the
man-making process. This institution is eminently suited for that task. If stands
in the vicinity of the Gurukulam in which was born the great Guru who
demonstrated by his own life and work that the humblest of men could rise by
self-culture and love of humanity to the highest position of respect and
leadership. He has stated in simple language, “The greatest science man can
study is the science of living with other men. There is no other thing so
taxing and requires so much wisdom, so much practice, as how to live together. There
is no art that is finer than the art of being at peace with one’s neighbours”.
I wish to state that our work in this college is
guided by the lofty ideas conveyed by simple words.
We have just begun our work in this direction. I must
thank one and all associated with this great endeavor. The Sree Narayana
Trusts, in whom is vested the management of the college and the Local Committee
with Sri. A.Achyuthan (Ex.Minister) as President deserves to be congratulated
for having accomplished the first stage of a great and noble task. I must thank
the members of staff-teaching and non-teaching, for their co-operation and
devoted service throughout. I thank the students and their guardians for their
whole hearted co-operation they have extended to me in doing whatever little I could
in this College during the year.

functioning well and in a creditable way. As a whole, the activities of the
College Union and the various other Associations were really very successful.
I will be failing in
duties, if I do not express my gratitude to our respected Principal, beloved teachers
and dear friends, who were co-operated with us to make this year’s activities grand
success. I am very grateful to our Principal who is also the Patron of the
College Union, for his valuable guidance and advice he has given to us. I also
express my gratitude to the Vice-Patron of the College Union and all our
teachers for guiding us and helping us in our activities. I am also thankful to
all our friends who co-operated with us to make the activities a real success.
